Last accessed offset for file handles

30 Sep 2013 15:14

One of the things I miss is the possibility to know what offset of a file is a process "currently" accessing.
For long running operations on big files, the only way I have to know this and somehow monitor progress, for instance, is to fire up Process Monitor to catch a few events and check which offset was accessed last.

I realize that this offset is certainly not stored along with all the other information currently displayed (handle, security, etc) but if somehow it's possible to hook a filter similar to ProcMon's in order for the driver to be able to inform the front end of last accessed offsets for a selected (file) handle, it would be a great addition IMO.
